LITTLEHAM COMMUNITY COMING TOGETHER
This is a unique initiative commissioned by the Woodbury, Exmouth and Budleigh (WEB) Community Health & Wellbeing Board who have demonstrated an admirable humility in genuinely wanting to know the people of the Littleham Estates better - without presupposing the answers and without agenda.
Who are the Littlehamsters?
They are a small group of local residents who have come together, using this funding, to explore - and take action around - the factors that impact the health and wellbeing of those who live in Littleham, particularly around it's local authority-built estates.

From September 2023 to March 2024 Interwoven has been chatting to people all over the main Littleham housing estate. We've been asking them about their experience of living here. What they'd like to celebrate and what they'd like to improve. (If you'd like to know more about Interwoven's unique Quiet Voice Methodology for this work please get in touch). Interwoven have also been meeting with Littleham "Stakeholders", that is the authorities and organisations who provide services in the area, to gain their vew. (If you're a provider and would like to see the Interim report please let us know.)
By March 2024 the Littleham Pod of residents met for the first time. Shortly after that they named themselves The Littlehamsters (so great!) and have got stuck straight in. Logo designed by Pod member, "J".

What they've identified
From all of the discussions so far The Littlehamsters have homed in on three main themes:-
1) Growing incidents of vehicle vandalism and drug related anti-social behaviour. The Littlehamsters want to know - is this related to limited local activities and facilities for our young people? What would optimal "youth provision" in Littleham look like?
2) The carers experience. The Littlehamsters want to know - does everyone understand what it means to be a carer? When can you call yourself a carer? What services are available? Is there anything else we, as a community, can do to support our carers?
3) Our green spaces - People don't seem to be using Littleham's green space for social or physical activity. They're mostly just places to move through. The Littlehamsters want to know - Why is this? Was it always the case?
At a Littlehamster meet up in June 2024 they decided to call their ongoing activity Littleham Community Coming Together (LCCT) and to explore the "youth" theme first with the subtitle Our Young People.

What the Littlehamsters have decided to do
First off, they've been joining Interwoven in attending meetings with the church, the school and college to learn more about current youth provision and the stakeholder perception of the problems faced by local families.
Next, they arranged a Littleham Community Coming Together - Our Young People Event. They asked their neighbours, particularly families, to come along and a share fun, family-friendly afternoon with them but also providing opportunity for people to share their thoughts on the questions above. Stakeholders will be welcome and, together, we can come to gain a deeper, richer understanding of how to celebrate and support our young people.

The Our Young People event 20th July 2024
The Littlehamsters all attended on the day, each willingly taking up roles/functions to help the day go smoothly. Their event report shows how they met all of their planned outcomes. Around 35-40 people attended including many stakeholders. Three families sat with the Littlehamsters providing lengthy, in-depth interviews on the theme of “Our Young People”.

DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS INITIATIVE?
Where has the money come from?
It's part of the health and wellbeing budget that has been put aside especially for Littleham.
If it's ultimately from my taxes/NI contributions do I get a say in how it's spent?
YES, absolutely. If you're a Littleham resident just get in touch.
Who are Interwoven Productions CIC and what is their role?
Interwoven have been doing this kind of work on estates in Exeter. JoJo Spinks has been developing ways of opening conversations, with people who wouldn't normally get involved, for 8 years. She's the founder of Interwoven but isn't on salary. She will be paid for the hours she puts into Littleham.
Is it a "consultation" then?
No. It's not a consultation because we haven't got a plan for you to comment on. It's an initiative designed to start with what you want to say and how you want to say it.
